La Rambla, La Ramblas oder Las Ramblas - however you want to call it, Rambla is the heart of Barcelona. Previously a river bed, Rambla leads from Plaça de Catalunya to the Columbus Monument near the seafront. Although it’s a continuous street, one can distinguish 5 different ‘ramblas’: Rambla de Canaletes with the famous fountain from 19th century, Rambla dels Elstudis named after an old university, Rambla dels Caputxins with Barcelona’s Opera Theather and Rambla de Santa Monica with the museum Centre d'Art Santa Mònica.

The entire street is filled with shops, restaurants, cosy cafes and life performances. Here tourists mix with shoppers, mims, florists, musicians and passers-by. It looks like life in Rambla never stops. The middle part of the Rambla is accessible only for pedestrians and is surrounded by trees, which makes it perfect for a nice walk or a shopping trip. Whether you want to buy flowers, clothes or authentic food, Rambla is the place to go to. Those, who want to avoid crowds, should rather visit the famous street in the morning as it gets full with people later in the day.
